Medical Sciences

Pharmaceutical Sciences encompass a wide range of subject knowledge and disciplines. At Level One, you will gain a thorough basic understanding of core subjects. At Level Two and Three, you will learn about analytical methods relevant to pharmaceuticals, molecular biology, pharmacology, including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, drug metabolism and toxicology, drug formulation and delivery and drug manufacture. The pharmaceutical industry is regulated to safeguard public safety and so you will also learn about the regulatory environment of the major regulatory agencies and quality standards such as Good Laboratory Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice.

The course includes lectures, seminars, laboratory-based practical classes and visits to specialist centres as well as lectures from visiting scientists from the pharmaceutical industry. The development of the drug development process in its widest sense and the associated practical skills that are directly applicable to industry is a key element of the course.
