English

This programme offers the opportunity to study a wide and exciting range of literatures in English in one of the country’s top-rated teaching and research departments. Adopting both critical and creative approaches, the programme seeks to develop your understanding of a wide range of genres and literatures in English.

Reading English literature is one of life’s great pleasures. It can be exciting and moving at times, stimulating and challenging at others. But above all, it is enjoyable and we all tend to perform at our best when doing things we enjoy.

At the end of three years, you will have acquired a wide and detailed knowledge of English. You will also have developed into the sort of independent, self-motivated researcher who is ready for postgraduate study and for a broad range of graduate employment.
